Case Studies

Four import problems. Four favorable outcomes.

$1.2M+ Value Recovered High-Volume Importer
Problem
A high-volume importer needed a broader review of its historical import activity to identify potential overpayments, errors, and missed recovery opportunities.
What we found
MGS identified opportunities across multiple areas, including classification, tariff treatment, valuation, entry corrections, and duty recovery.
What MGS did
We reviewed the underlying entry data, validated each opportunity, quantified the financial impact, and supported the corrective and recovery process across multiple initiatives.
Result
Over $1.2M recovered across multiple trade compliance initiatives, including classification, tariff treatment, valuation, entry corrections, and duty recovery opportunities.
$517K+ Supplier Overbilling Identified Multi-Supplier Importer
Problem
Supplier billing and import data were not lining up cleanly, creating hidden landed-cost leakage that was not being captured as a single obvious error.
What we found
Recurring supplier-level variance was visible only when invoices, entry data, and supporting transaction records were compared across the population.
What MGS did
MGS compared supplier, entry, and supporting transaction data to isolate recurring variance and quantify the exposure.
Result
$517K+ in excess supplier payments identified due to inaccurate EUR-to-USD conversion rates, with controls implemented to prevent recurring leakage.
$289K Duty Refund / Overpayment Industrial Components Importer
Problem
A long-standing classification had been carried across repeated imports, causing a higher duty rate to be paid shipment after shipment.
What we found
Technical documentation and product function supported a different classification position, and the historical entry population showed the rate difference had accumulated materially over time.
What MGS did
MGS reviewed historical 7501s, technical documentation, product function, and the applicable tariff framework; the affected population was quantified and the classification corrected.
Result
Approximately $289K in overpaid duties identified for recovery, and the classification corrected going forward.
$10M+ Client Cargo Cleared Multiple U.S. Importers, 2025
Problem
Importers faced CBP holds, documentation discrepancies, broker escalations, and recurring clearance issues that left valuable inventory sitting instead of moving.
What we found
The cause differed by shipment, including entry data, documentation gaps, classification issues, broker workflow, supplier information, and specific CBP requirements.
What MGS did
MGS reviewed entry data and supporting records, isolated the customs issues, coordinated corrective action with clients, brokers, CBP resources, and other parties as needed, and helped move shipments toward release.
Result
More than $10M in client cargo supported through successful clearance matters during 2025.

Your next import problem may already be hiding in the data. Or it may already be slowing down your operation.

Either way, the place to start is a look at the entries.
